If you are graduating from a high school in Scott County, Iowa, you will want to read on! A memorial scholarship fund was established in 2009, called The Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship Fund, in honor of Keith Lucier, a 1992 graduate of Bettendorf High School. Keith received his degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and worked several years with several minor league baseball teams throughout his short life. At the time of his untimely death, he was employed at Lee Enterprises, Inc. Keith was a firm believer that everyone should have an opportunity for an education that can help them achieve success in their life.
The scholarship fun was established by David Heller, of the Quad Cities River Bandits, Keith's wife Jennifer Lucier, Tonie Lucier and family, and John and Mary Beth Kelser. The earnings from this fund will provide a source of tuition funding (for one full year) to a young man or woman who is pursuing higher education at the University of Iowa. It is intended for incoming Freshmen only. Funding will be dispersed over two semesters, with the second half dispersed only if the student maintains a 2.5 GPA or above.
One award will be given to an incoming Freshman at the University of Iowa and who has graduated from a Scott County, Iowa High School. This individual will also receive a summer internship with the Quad Cities River Bandits. This is a non-renewable scholarship given to a full time student only.
